Sunday, March 14

The Greater Danbury Ancient Order of Hibernians 17^th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade is slated for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14. (A rain date is likely so check back.)

The route begins in the area of Kennedy Street off North Main, turning right onto West St. through to Lake Ave. and up to the new hall. To map it, click here. At the finish, parade-goers will find free beer and hot dogs; corned beef cabbages will be served to the much-deserving marchers.

Wednesday, March 17

The Wilton Library offers drop-in St. Patrick's Day crafts during regular library hours, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 17. Children of all ages are invited to make a craft to take home. No registration is necessary; the crafting is made possible by the Coyle Family Young Readers Fund. Free

Children can also join Wilton Library assistant Ms. Keogh as she shares some of her favorite Irish tales from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Kids are sure to love these Irish trickster tales of leprechauns, giants and more. Grades one and up are welcome with a caregiver in the building. No registration is necessary. Free

The Schoolhouse Restaurant greets St. Patrick's Day, Wednesday, March 17, with a special dinner paired with Irish beer and whiskey tastings, along with "contemporary riffs" on Irish classics. The evening is priced at $75 per person.

Georgetown Saloon patrons will no doubt hoist a few green ones to cheer on St. Patrick, while dining on appropriate dinner specials and tapping their toes to traditional Irish tunes by local shamrockers Bill Devlin, Nora Hanley, Andrew Carey. Cheer - responsibly - to leprechauns with Bailey's green beer, Jameson drink specials and more.

Georgetown's Lumberyard Pub gets foot-stompin' with Keltic Kick from 7 p.m. to closing Wednesday, March 17. Look for green beer, free food, and the return of the pub's Bavarian beer maids.

How To Train Your Dragon Community Craft Day in your town is brought to you by Patch.com, AOL, and Moviefone on behalf of Paramount Pictures release of How To Train Your Dragon. Patch's Dragon Trainers are leading craft events this weekend with projects including a diorama, word find, and coloring along with prizes provided by the movie. The Craft event that has the most attendees will earn a FREE 3-D screening in the local tri-state area!

Blood Drive at Wilton Congregational

Rotary Opens Booth Registration For 20th Arts, Crafts Show

The Wilton Rotary Club invites area businesses, organizations and groups to participate in the rotary's 20th Annual Open Arts and Crafts Show to be held on Saturday, May 29, at the Wilton Town Green Gazebo. Times will be announced.

Show chairman Richard E. Kent has increased outreach to advertisers and the community, and continues the organization's efforts to continually improve the show, he said. "We anticipate a sell out on booths, so register early."

Missing a Diamond Ring?

A women's ring was found in the area of Seir Hill Road and Twin Pond Lane. It is currently in police custody (though it was not arrested, just detained).

It has a silver band with diamonds set in it. And police are asking anyone with an inquiry to contact Detective Trahan at 203-834-6260.

Citizen Policy Academy Begins Tonight

The Wilton Police Department's Citizen Police Academy begins tonight at 7 p.m. and will run every Tuesday night for 12 weeks.

Classes will include patrol procedure, detective division, specialty units (ERT, SCUBA, etc.), youth crimes, motor vehicle enforcement, weapons, law enforcement practical skills, technology in law enforcement, and several others.

Friends School Offers First Summer Camp

The Connecticut Friends School announces its first-ever summer camp program, which envelopes the Quaker values of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship. The program is available to both CFS and non-CFS students.

Available for grades K-8, the 4-week program session will run weekdays 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from July 6 to July 30 at the CFS White Barn Campus on the Westport/Norwalk border. Currently, the school's primary campus is located at 317 New Canaan Rd., Wilton.

Camp days will include daily community-building games, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, and a themed activity based on the four elements of air, wind, water and fire. Nature-based content utilizing the 15.5 acres at White Barn will be supplemented by field trips into the community.

Library Calls For 'Gigantic Book Sale' Materials

In preparation for their Annual Gigantic Book Sale, Wilton Library is calling patrons to bring their new or gently used books, CDs, DVDs, and audio books to the library by Saturday, March 20. And when organizers say "gigantic," they mean 70,000 items will be featured in the sale running April 10 to 13, clearly a don't-miss opportunity for bargains - and to contribute to the library benefit.

Ring's End Invites Moms for 'Kids, Kitchens, Food' Free Seminar

Ready to get the kids past pizza and nuggets, and may refresh your kitchen decor while you're at it?

Ring's End Lumber will host a free Morning for Moms seminar from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 16, in the Kitchen Design Center of the Wilton store. Color consultant Rita T will be on hand to guide moms in an exploration of New Colors in the Kitchen and Michele Liguori will share tips on encouraging children to eat healthy foods, with Getting Beyond Pasta, Pizza and Nuggets. Limited seating is available; parents are encouraged to pre-register by sending an email to RitaTMcCaf@aol.com.

"Kitchens have multiple color surfaces, with the cabinet choices accounting for as much as 70% of the surface area," observed Rita T. "The colors of countertops, backsplash tiles and floor are also more permanent choices, but there are wonderful options for transforming this central family living space by incorporating new color trends for walls, ceiling and table settings. Among the innovative products from Benjamin Moore is an erasable, washable chalkboard paint that can be applied directly to the wall, creating a custom surface for family members to leave messages and drawings for each other," she said.

For families that are considering a kitchen renovation, Ring's End offers design services and cabinet lines for a variety of budgets, as well as natural stone and other counter surfaces. Updating architectural hardware and adding decorative moulding and millwork treatments can also refresh a tired kitchen, she added.

Ring's End Kitchen & Bath Designers Christina Devos and Holly Wright will also be on hand to answer questions.

Michele Liguori, who is a sought-after speaker to PTOs, corporate and youth groups, noted that visual appeal can account for 85% of a child's decision whether or not to try new foods. Observing that parents already know they need to encourage nutritious eating, she will suggest chef secrets and innovative presentations to improve kids' acceptance of healthy choices. Her presentation will also share a few "covert operations" that encourage children to try healthy foods. Among Chef Liguori's suggestions for Getting Beyond Pasta, Pizza and Nuggets is the use of cones, "foodsicle"/kebab, and "shreddible edibles," as well as using "miniware." She will also provide recipes that subtly add the necessary serving portions of fruits and vegetables into favorite foods.

Rita T, a former elementary school teacher who is widely recognized by her trademark hat, has more than 40 years' experience in the design world, spanning product development, interior design and color consulting. Her practical approach to decorating encourages families to recycle furnishings and add pieces, using color as the catalyst to create harmonious and useable space as rooms evolve. Focusing primarily on color for the past 10 years, she creates an annual "colors for your life" palette based on current trends and personalized for her clients. She is at the Ring's End Paint Center in Wilton from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and at the newly opened Ring's End Paint & Design Center in Norwalk on Saturdays. In-store color consultations are complimentary.

Rita T can also be engaged as an independent color consultant to visit clients' homes and help them create a custom color palette for individual or multiple rooms or a home's exterior.
