Get Ready to Go Green

Wliton's first Go Green Festival comes to town.

Wilton will be turning green for a day and that's a good thing.

The town's first Go Green Festival will take place on Sunday, May 2 with events split between the Town Green and the library. The festivities begin with a 5k at the Woodcock Nature Center at 8:30 a.m. and bike rides of varying length shortly after at 8:45 a.m. at the Town Green.

The rest of the events start at 11 a.m., with around 80 exhibitors presenting environmentally attuned ideas and products. Some of the highlights will include a child yoga class at 11:30 a.m, a number of movies and the day's keynote speaker at 1 p.m.

The weather forecast looks generally good, with a few occasional showers possible but not likely to overwhelm the day.

According to organizers, the festival is likely to cost around $15,000 and will be partially paid for by a $4,000 grant from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund. Organizers have already raised around $17,000 for the event and the leftover funds will be held by the Wilton Eenergy Commission and used to help raise energy awareness throughout the year and possibly to fund another festival next year.

Please find the day's schedule attached.
