Green Medal Winners

Wilton Go Green announces the winners of an art contest for its BYOBAG campaign.

After reviewing over 100 art entries, the judges have announced the top four winners in Wilton Go Green’s BYOBag art contest.  

“The winning entries were all outstanding illustrations that supported our purpose of promoting reusable bags and environmental awareness,” said Paula Byrdy, a Wilton Go Green board member and coordinator of the art contest. 

The first place winners are H.G. Siewert, grade 12 (computer generated); Terrence McLaughlin, grade 10;  Sarah Perry, grade 7; and Teresa Nobles, grade 3.  Second place winners are Ben Hoffman, grade 11 (computer-generated); Rebecca Culp, grade 12; Mitch Kauffman, grade 8; and Shannon Keefe, grade 4.   Taking third place were Matt Stout, grade 11 (computer-generated); Lindsay Johnson, grade 10; Kevin Ugarte, grade 6; and Shelby Dejana, grade 2.

“We’re pleased to announce that the four first- place winners will all have their winning designs reproduced on our free reusable bags, which will be distributed at local retail stores this spring,” said Ms. Byrdy.  All the entries are currently on display at the Wilton Library until March 4 and then the winning entries will be moved to the Town Hall for further viewing. 

 “We appreciate the support from the Wilton schools and thank the teachers who encouraged their students to participate in the art contest, “ said Ms. Byrdy.  “We’re also grateful to our judges Pat Hegnauer, artist and  President of artist the Georgetown Community Cultural Center (GCCC) and Dara  Quinn, art teacher and owner of the studio and frame shop at GCCC.”

Interest in conservation and sustainable living is definitely gaining momentum in town,  according to Becky Bunnell, President of Wilton Go Green, Inc. “The Chamber of Commerce has been very supportive and is encouraging its members to promote the use of  reusable bags.
