Community Corner

Warming Up Wilton Through Charity

A letter from Wilton's Rep. Gail Lavielle

Last year, almost everyone in Wilton found out what it was like not to have electricity, heat, or water . Not daunted in the slightest, Wilton’s great community spirit rose to the occasion each time a weather disaster struck, as people all over town displayed extraordinary generosity by pitching in to help their neighbors.

Now many of our neighbors need help once again to keep their homes warm over the next few months. The Wilton Warm Up Fund provides emergency heating assistance to Wilton residents, and 64 families have applied to receive it. This year, however, federal funding cuts to the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program have depleted the Fund’s resources, so it is depending on individual and corporate donations to serve those in need.

Cathy Pierce and the staff of Wilton’s have been working with great seriousness and urgency on the fundraising efforts, coordinating with many town and religious organizations to involve the community. Local businesses including Conceptual Designs, JC Signs, Paul’s Prosperous Printing, and have generously supported the outreach program with time and funding.
