Weir Farm Named One of Nation's Worst 100 Stimulus Projects

Senators John McCain and Tom Coburn name Weir Farm to a list of the worst federal stimulus-funded initiatives.

The Weir Farm National Historic Site in Wilton was just named to a national top-100 list. Unfortunately, that list consists of the top 100 worst federally-funded stimulus projects.

Despite all the great artists it has nurtured and all the great artwork produced there, Sens. John McCain (Arizona) and Tom Coburn (Oklahoma) have released a list "of what they say are the 100 worst projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in an effort to show the stimulus did little to meet its stated goals of creating or retaining jobs and keeping the economy from floundering," the Hartford Business Journal is reporting.

Weir Farm was awarded almost $200,000 of federal money to build a new Artist-in-Residence studio on the property (converting an old barn), which opened earlier this year. McCain and Coburn reportedly take issue with the project because "the facility can deny visitors access even though it received public funding."

The project was named number 98 on the top 100 list.
