Wilton Man Reaches Plea Bargain in Manslaughter Case

Gregory Dionisio pleads guilty to charges stemming from an accident that claimed the life of Wiltonian Thomas Fleming.

Gregory Dionisio, 21, of Wilton plead guilty on Thursday to charges of second-degree manslaughter and driving while intoxicated related to a July 5 accident that killed Wilton resident Thomas Fleming.

Judge Maureen Dennis heard the case at 2:50 p.m. in Norwalk Superior Court, when it was announced that Dionisio and his attorney had reached a plea bargain with the prosecution and presented it to the judge.

The agreement carries a minimum prison sentence of two years and a maximum sentence of six years (down from the maximum ten years allowable under the charges), followed by five years of probation. If Dionisio violates the probation terms, he is to serve out the remainder of the sentence. His bond was also raised from $50,000 to $100,000, which he will forfeit if he violates probation.

Dionisio's charges stem from last year's motor vehicle accident when, according to police records, he was headed north on Ridgefield Road, veered into the opposite lane and struck Fleming, 50, who was riding his motorcycle. Both were taken to Norwalk Hospital, where Fleming died from injuries he sustained during the accident.

Toxicology results showed Dionisio as having a .09 percent blood alcohol content, as well as carrying a number of drugs in his system at the time of the accident, including cocaine, ecstasy and THC (the active ingredient in marijuana).

A group of approximately 30 of Fleming's friends and relatives attended Thursday's hearing to show support for the family. Dionisio, meanwhile, agreed to all the stipulations of the plea bargain, including a promise not to exercise his bond before sentencing, and was handcuffed and lead from the courtroom to be held until his final sentencing scheduled for June 10.
