Sunday Liquor Sales Bill Signed Into Law [VIDEO]

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy ends "Blue Laws" in ceremony at Enfield Town Hall.

  Connecticut's archaic "Blue Laws" prohibiting liquor stores from opening on Sundays ended Thursday, with the signing of legislation that allows those retailers the opportunity to open seven days a week if they so choose. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signed the bill into law in the Town Council Chambers at Enfield Town Hall. Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, state Sen. John Kissel, Rep. Kathy Tallarita and Rep. David Kiner were among the legislators present for the ceremony. The bill allows liquor permittees to sell alcohol from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays, as well as on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, and on Mondays following a Christmas or New Year's Day holiday that falls on a Sunday.  The governor said he chose to stage the signing …

Locals Remember Mary Kennedy as 'Warm,' 'Caring' and Gracious'

Residents say she should be remembered not for her recent troubles but for her kindness and generous commitment to local causes.

  While officials worked to discover the cause of her death, friends remember Bedford resident Mary Richardson Kennedy in life as an energetic professional and warm, caring individual. "She was very easy to talk to and so supportive of our work," said Brian Skanes, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club in Mt. Kisco. Kennedy was involved in the nonprofit organization for several years as a volunteer on the club's annual fundraising dinner. When she heard about the club's Youth of the Year awards, she volunteered to host the event at her home. Wine from Napa Valley, Winemaker in Darien

With a couple of trips a year to California's Napa Valley and an on-the-scene consultant to monitor the process, Paola Sordoni runs her own wine business from home here in Darien—winning accolades and selling on the Internet.

  A lot of wine lovers visiting California's Napa Valley have daydreamed about starting their own winery, imagining that using their own good taste they could come up with an award-winning vintage. Paola Sordoni, a stay-at-home Darien mother with one toddler and now another on the way, hasn't just daydreamed about it: She's done it. She and her wine-loving husband, who together moved to Darien from New York City in October 2010, enjoyed playing with blending wine at home to get different tastes. "That was the fascinating part for me," she said. "How can we take a group—even one that wasn't so great to begin with—and make something beautiful with it?" Restaurant at Cobb's Mill Inn Is Now Open

La Roue Elayne at Cobb's Mill Inn opened over the weekend.

  Weston's coziest dining space is once again open for business. Over the weekend, La Roue Elayne at Cobb's Mill Inn opened its doors to the public, starting things off with live music and drinks on Saturday night followed by Mother's Day brunch and dinner on Sunday. The restaurant had been closed since 2010.  According to The Weston Forum, the restaurant will offer salmon, lobster, ham, lamb, beef and other seafood options. Wilton Stop & Shop Introduces Scan It Mobile System

Smartphone payment system lets customers scan items and checkout using their iPhone 3GS or 4, or Android smart phone.

The Wilton Stop and Shop now offers the Scan It! Mobile system, allowing customers to scan their own items and check out using an iPhone 3GS or 4, or Android smart phone. In addition the store has reportedly rolled out hand-held laser scanners, enabling customers to scan items as they are placed in the cart. "This is, of course, another way to get customers to do their work for them," writes James Cooper, Fairfield County Food Examiner for examiner.com, who reviews the two systems in a recent blog post. "But if it offers distinct advantages, it is worth considering." The Scan It! Wilton One Step Closer to Forming Economic Development Commission

The Board of Selectmen reportedly set the number of seats on the EDC at seven and tentatively established two-year terms.

The Wilton Board of Selectmen reportedly took another step toward establishing a new Economic Development Commission (EDC) during its meeting on May 7. According to a report in the Wilton Bulletin, the Board of Selectmen set the number of seats on the EDC at seven and tentatively established terms limits at two years. The Town has been working on forming the commission for about a year now. About 20 qualified residents have so far stepped forward to serve on the new commission, which will work closely with the Planning & Zoning Commission and the Town Planner in mapping Wilton's future economic development, according to the report.
