Ambler Farm will hold a class in the ancient craft of pysanky - or Ukrainian Easter Egg Decorating to most of us - Saturday, April 3, at 2pm in the Carriage Barn. Adults and children 8 and up are welcome to learn this form of artistry, a Ukranian tradition, just in time for Easter. Children should be accompanied by an adult.

Instructor Susan Clark will teach attendees and guide them step-by-step through the process of decorating eggs for their homes.

Ridgefield Responds Flip Flop Drive

Flip Flop Drive for the people of Jacmel, Haiti. Flip flops are considered a precious commodity in Haiti, a country where the people often go without shoes. Our drive will be an exciting way to help the people of Jacmel during such a traumatic time, and a great way for our kids to understand and help others in need.

Please bring your new or gently used flip flops to any Ridgefield Public School, St. Mary School, Kilometres, Yoga Shala or the Ridgefield Boys and Girls Club from March 29th to April 9th.

True Stories of Race Relations in the Antebellum South

Guest speaker Edna Bolling Jacques will give her special presentation "Complicated Race Relations in the Antebellum South: Illustrated by Using the Slave Laws and My Old Virginia Families"

Mrs. Bolling Jacques is a descendant of many important figures in American history, including Pocahontas, Mary Hemings, John Wayles Eppes (U.S. Senator and son-in-law of Thomas Jefferson), and Samuel P. Bolling, the last black to serve in the Virginia House of Delegates in the 19th century. Mrs. Bolling Jacques has lectured at Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, about her family connections.

In this presentation, Mrs. Bolling Jacques will discuss the complicated race relations in the Antebellum South through true stories of her own family. The Hemings Family is featured in the book "The Hemings of Monticello: An American Family," written by Annette Gordon-Reed and winner of the National Book Award for non-fiction and the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for History.

Susan Newmann's class will meet in Redding. Each class will be geared to every level of fitness capability from beginners who are just starting to incorporate exercise into their lifestyle, to those who have been exercising for years and would like the challenge of something new. It will be an hour long complete toning workout targeting all major muscle groups. This workout is designed to not only increase your lean muscle mass, but will help to decrease fat stores, keep the heart pumping and the calories burning!
Benay's Ruben's Method Classes will meet in Westport at Benay's Studio. Benay's unique Method classes are a hybrid of yoga, pilates and core strength exercises using a ballet bar paired with meditation, imagery and Yoga Nidra. You will strengthen, lengthen and tone your body; while you rest and restore your mind and spirit. Benay was trained by the masters of Exhale, Lotte Burke and the Bar Method and has been teaching integrative fitness for over 15 years as a certified master trainer, yoga teacher and mat pilates instructor. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate.

Chef Giada Signs New Cookbook at Stew Leonard

Stew Leonard's announces that Giada De Laurentiis, famed Italian chef, author and Food Network star, will greet fans and sign her brand new cookbook, Giada at Home, at the store in Norwalk Wednesday, March 31, at 5pm, just one day after the book goes on sale nationwide. It is the chef's fifth cookbook, a collection of stunning photographs and her signature recipes, as well as newer recipes that combine the freshness of California cuisine with Italian flavors from her youth.

The store will offer the cookbook at a special book-signing price of $27.99 or two for $50.

Tickets to the event will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis to the first 330 fans. However, 20 lucky fans will win a reserved place at the front of the line to have their book signed.

Fans can submit their entries right here or in the ballot box at any of the Stew Leonard's stores in Norwalk, Danbury, Yonkers, and Newington. Entries will be accepted Monday, March 15, through the morning of Monday, March 29.

Who needs to get outside and stretch their legs more than young kids do at the end of a long, snowy winter? To give kids an opportunity to do just that, Au Pair in America will sponsor a Children's Fun Run at the Daffodil Dash held in Cranbury Park on Sunday, April 11^th, 2010.

The Children's Fun Run will kick-off around 10am. While the kids enjoy the opportunity to run a lap around the soccer field parents will enjoy the chance to sit back and watch. The Fun Run is free for children who have a parent participating in the 5K run/walk otherwise its $10. All proceeds from the Fun Run and the Daffodil Dash benefit the non-profit preschool in Wilton, Town & Country Montessori.

Jack and the Beanstalk Marionette Show

The cherished children's fable Jack and the Beanstalk comes to life on Saturday, April 10, at the Wilton Historical Society at 224 Danbury Road.

Courtesy of the No Strings Marionette Company, this classic tale captures audiences of all ages as they follow Jack's magical adventures. Fifteen hand-crafted marionettes will fill the stage as the story unfolds.

Two performances will be held. The first at 4 p.m. with an encore at 6 p.m.

Prior to each show, children will join in an interactive sing along, making them part of the show. Following each performance, the magic of the marionettes will be unmasked with up-close interactions with the marionettes from the show and demonstrations of how they are brought to life.

Tickets are $10 for Society members and $15 for non-members.
