Kitchens with more patina and fewer modern materials are increasingly popular. Products such as slate, uneven flooring, handmade tiles, and zinc help create the look.

After last year’s color palette of super-saturated and vibrant hues, light pastel shades are proving to be a welcome change. Colors like Lemon Sorbet and Robin’s Egg Blue are popular. With paint finishes, high gloss is being favored on moldings and wood work. Thinking green, zero-VOC or odor-free paint from companies such as Benjamin Moore, Glidden, Kelly Moore, and Sherwin Williams are in demand as well.

FABRIC:

Although textured fabric has tromped elaborate pattern for some time, classic, feminine pattern such as multi-color floral are experiencing a revival.

WOOD TONES:

To create rich, warm settings, choose dark-stained rather than natural maple or cherry.

METAL TONES:

Golden, brassy tones are proving to be a nice compliment to dark wood tones and pretty, more traditional fabrics.

FURNITURE:

After years of stripped down, streamlined transitional furniture, antiques are experiencing a revival. They can be found inexpensively at places like Norwalk’s Braswell Galleries. Refinish or paint them in high lacquer for a fashionable, timeless look. Also, popular are eye-catching, large scale pieces.

ART:

Art has always been popular and continues to be used as a positive way to add interest in a home. Places to pick-up attractive yet inexpensive pieces include library shows and art fairs.

SPECIAL SPACES:

MAN CAVES:

Man caves are expected to continue to improve with gadget-filled media rooms, incredible wine cellars, pizza ovens and more elaborate interior grills. This trend is being fueled by more men working from home. OUTDOOR

LIVING ROOMS & SCREENED PORCHES:

Popular for several years now, outdoor living rooms and screen porches that have the feeling and function of an indoor room continue to be on homeowners’ priority lists. Therefore, popular are products that create the spaces such as audio systems and TVs, outdoor furniture and fabrics, and fire pits.
