On Tuesday, July 23, 2013, Jonathan Greenwald, MD, a recently retired attending cardiologist at Norwalk Hospital with a private practice in Norwalk, Connecticut will present a powerful presentation entitled "Confronting Sudden Cardiac Arrest in the Young Competitive Athlete". This free event will take place from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in the Rimer Room at the Wilton Library located at 137 Old Ridgefield Road, Wilton, CT. The presentation is open to the public. Athletic director, trainers, fitness professionals and athletes are encouraged to attend.The purpose of Dr. Greenwald’s presentation is to increase awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and the importance of having an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) present on the sidelines at all sporting events. Dr. Greenwald presents powerful cases, including a video of a soccer player experiencing sudden cardiac arrest during a soccer game. The athlete is revived within a minute of going down due to the close proximity of the device.“I can’t emphasize enough the importance of the information that Dr. Greenwald presents,” says Nancy Capelle, a cardiac arrest survivor and now an EMT with the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps. “The immediate accessibility and use of an AED can save a young life – we can’t ignore that.” Dr. Greenwald received his BA from Hamilton College and his MD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His primary interest has been in sudden cardiac arrest in young athletes. He serves on the Sport & Exercise Cardiology Section of the American College of Cardiology and on the Connecticut State Medical Society’s Committee on the Medical Aspects of Sports.The 1 hour presentation is free and open to the public.
