The World Languages Department at Wilton High School is proud to announce the Festival of Languages, a school-wide celebration of world languages, cultures, and diversity from April 7 to 9. The Festival of Languages has been a tradition at Wilton High School for 15 years.
Our objective is to celebrate the variety of the world's cultures and languages. This annual three day-long will mainly be run by students with the guidance of Señor Webster and Frau Cordes, Spanish and German teachers respectively.
A planning committee led by students Kate Bell, Ransom Meltzer and Jessica Kobsa has held weekly meetings since October. This group is comprised of students in all grade levels working collaboratively with language teachers to organize the event.

Other subject areas are also involved. The committee has worked closely with Social Studies, Math and Physical Education to design events that connect across disciplines.
An event such as Amnesty International's presentation on Education as a Human Right highlights the importance of reaching beyond the WHS community. The festival shares the week before April vacation with the Art Department’s Festival of Arts from April 9 to 11.

The high school hallways will be infused with a sense of excitement and festivity that emphasizes open-mindedness and a global outlook. The excitement of this festival reaches nearly every student in the school, with at least one event offered every period of each day of the festival.
The Festival Committee plans to play interludes of cultural music over the loudspeaker system between classes and to hold a World Language Trivia Contest among the Advisory groups. The Festival Committee hopes to ensure that the festive spirit reaches all students!
This year’s festival will feature events from original poetry recitations in four different languages to a student-run talent show brimming with song, music, and language:
- An International Bake Sale run by the French and Spanish Honor Societies and the International Club will be held during lunch, all three days, to benefit Doctors Without Borders.
- A panel of Spanish IV students will present on real data on research about their ancestors to explain why and when they immigrated to the US.
- The LETS (Let’s Erase The Stigma) Club will present on mental illness and global, as well as local, initiatives.
- German classes will present adaptations of traditional Grimm’s fairy tales in the Little Theater.
- Teachers from the Mathematics Department will offer Japanese origami lessons.
