Newcomers Evening Benefits Wilton Education Foundation

"A Taste of Spring" wine, hors d'ouvres and silent auction support effort to raise money for town schools.

Reading, writing and arithmetic may have been on the minds of the Wilton Newcomers Club members, but food, fun and merriment is what they got in return this past Saturday evening.

That’s when the club threw its annual fundraising event, “A Taste of Spring,” to benefit the Wilton Education Foundation and Wilton’s schools.

Club members and guests gathered at Ambler Farm’s white barn to enjoy a wine tasting that featured wines from Vintage Fine Wines. The beverages were matched to a menu prepared by Cogolulu Café and Catering. The event was sponsored by HSBC, enabling all proceeds from the evening to benefit WEF.

“This is our big event of the year and we are so thrilled to be able to support WEF for a second year in a row,” said Vivian McVey, WNC co-president. “Wilton is so fortunate to have an organization like WEF that is so dedicated to enhancing the education of our children, especially given the challenges our schools face with the budget cuts this year.”

Amongst the attendees were State Senator Toni Boucher, State Representative Gail Lavielle, WEF’s chairman Kit Smith and Wilton Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Gary Richards, who talked about having shared goals with the people supporting WEF that evening.

“When our children were attending this school system, their teachers met them where they each were, and met each of their needs. One of my goals in leading the school system is to make sure that everybody’s children have the kind of experience my children had. WEF partnering with us has really helped us try to do that in very difficult times,” said Richards.

The evening also featured a silent auction, with over 100 items from local businesses and organizations to help WNC raise funds.
