Organizers May Cancel Sunday's Babysitter Meet-and-Greet

krik-it and Une Minette hope their weekend event for Wilton families and prospective sitters is a go, but more babysitter candidates need to register by end of day Friday—or else it won't go on at all.

Finding just any babysitter is one thing; finding the right babysitter is a completely different story. Wilton retailers krik-it and Une Minette came up with the idea to hold a meet-and-greet event to connect local families in need of childcare help with potential babysitters looking for work.

"We heard from a lot of customers who are moms that it was hard to find good babysitters and find somebody consistent. We came up with the idea of the meet-and-greet as a service to the community," said Rosanna Coughlin, owner of krik-it.

They scheduled the event for this Sunday April 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their neighboring stores at 5 River Road, and started letting people know. At least a dozen parents in need of good babysitters registered to attend, and several moms with teenagers looking for babysitting work said their teens would submit resumes.

"We need some sort of write up of what their babysitting experience has been, their Red Cross certification and a picture, so that we can make copies and hand that out to parents," Coughlin explained.

But as of Thursday evening, no babysitter candidates had submitted actual information, leading Coughlin and Une Minette's Lauren Robek to consider canceling the event—unless they hear from additional babysitters by the end of today.

The event is planned as an open house, so that babysitters—teens, pre-teens who want to be mothers' helpers, and childcare providers over 21—would be available for the three-hour event to meet face-to-face with parents. Families would be able to walk away with a packet of resumes and contact information for new potential childcare help.

"It's the perfect thing for teens looking for afterschool work or summer jobs, for teens home from college over the summer, or older more experienced sitters and nannies," said Coughlin.

Candidates who wish to submit information should contact Couglin at krik-it by calling (203) 210-7222 or by emailing her at info@krikitkids.com. There is also a resume template PDF attached to this article.
