Scavenger Hunt Digs Up Love and Support for Wilton Family

Revelry and fun were the prizes won by all who participated in Saturday's Great Wilton Scavenger Hunt, held to raise funds for cancer research on behalf of Wilton's Kennedy Snyder and family.

Could you find the following in Wilton:

  • The oldest headstone
  • Hippos and elephants
  • The only outdoor movie theater
  • The stone post on the border of New York and Connecticut

If you said, “No problem!” you should have been one of the many racers competing in last weekend’s Great Wilton Scavenger Hunt. The event was held as a fundraiser for Kennedy’s Cord Foundation, .

More than 40 teams raced around Wilton solving clues and collecting a wide variety of items as part of Saturday afternoon's timed hunt. Teams were required to race with four adults but could have unlimited numbers of accompanying children, in order to encourage families to enjoy the game together, according to race organizer Jeff Snyder.

He said the idea of the day was to celebrate families and to make the town the centerpiece of the scavenger hunt.

“One of the greatest decisions our family made was moving to Wilton,” said Snyder. “For the past seven years, the Wilton community has rallied around our daughter Kennedy to someday find a cure for her rare form of cancer. It was important to us that this event be about families and be about Wilton.”

The race started and ended at Merwin Meadows, where teams received their clue packets and had three hours to run around Wilton looking for objects and taking pictures in order to satisfy all the requirements. At the end of the race, teams were judged on their ability to solve as many clues and earn the most points, earning bonuses for creative costumes and pictures proving extra effort.

The winning team was the appropriately-leied Aloha Hawaiians, but celebrating Kennedy’s spirit and the town that has rallied to her cause seemed to be the real point of the day. Mark Bennett, who raced with his team the Salty Dawgs (complete with appropriate pirate attire), echoed the sentiment.

“This was truly a great event from the very beginning. A fantastic cause, dedicated volunteers, and motivated participants made for a winning combination. I can't wait for the 2nd Annual Hunt!"
