It was a busy news week in Wilton and Norwalk, that started with a deep freeze and dangerous sub zero temperatures and ended with balmy 50° temps, rain and fog.  

1. Pool Drained onto Flax Hill Results in Car Accidents On Thursday, a pool company employee drained a swimming pool onto Flax Hill Road, creating vast swaths of ice. After three car accidents resulted, the pool company employee was charged with Reckless Endangerment. 

2. Prostitution Charges for Two Women at Nirvana Relaxation Station
On Thursday, a Norwalk Police sting resulted in the arrest of two women on prostitution charges at a local massage parlor. Kwang Olson, 57, and Shun Ma, 49, made bond of $5,000 each.

3. Beware of Plunging Temperatures and Dangerous Wind Chills On Monday, Jan. 6 the National Weather Service warned that Tuesday, temps would drop from the 50s to single digits, and they did. The deep freeze wreaked havoc on residents of Wilton and Norwalk, and resulting in some burst pipes.

4. Dozens Join Rilling in at the "Mayor's Night Out" On Wednesday night Norwalk residents filled Van Zilen Community Hall at East Norwalk library for a chance to voice their concerns to Mayor Rilling. Concerns shared with Mayor Rilling, the police and fire chiefs and department heads ranged from the lack of defibrillators in public schools to the sad sight of empty storefronts and inconvenient parking in South Norwalk.

5. Wilton Police launched an investigation into the death of a man, 76, at Ogden house. On Thursday Robert J. Wiswall was found lying in his bed with a single gunshot wound to the head.

6. Farewell Loehmann's. Norwalk Store Going out of Business  After 93 years in business, the discount department store chain has decided to call it quits. The first day of the Going Out of Business sale was Thursday Jan 9, and the sale continues.

7. Cider Mill Students Honored for Winning Fire Safety Posters
Four students from Cider Mill School were feted by members of the Wilton Fire Dept. for their creative and informative fire safety posters and will move on to the county-wide level of competition.
