WILTON, CT, September 1, 2010 – The Wilton Playshop will hold auditions for its season opening production of the Tony Award winning musical comedy URINETOWN (music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann, lyrics and book by Greg Kotis) on September 1, September 7 and September 8, from 7 to 10 PM at The Wilton Playshop, Lovers Lane, Wilton.  Callbacks, if needed, will be on September 9.

The production will be directed by Stacie Moye, with musical direction by Anna DeMasi and choreography by Marjorie Janeway. Performances will be held October 29, 30, 31, and November 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12 and 13, 2010.

The show features a cast of 22 characters, with strong roles for both men and women and equal numbers of heroes and villains. With character names such as Officer Lockstock, Officer Barrel, Little Sally, Penelope Pennywise, and Bobby Strong, the show offers actors a chance to play one-of-a-kind roles with artistic license.

One of the most original comedic musicals in recent years, URINETOWN is a hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he's had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, URINETOWN catapults the "comedic romp" into the ne w millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit, and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.
