The Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra (WCYO) will present a concert on Sunday, March 4, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. at the Clune Auditorium at Wilton High School featuring all three WCYO ensembles; the Symphony Orchestra, String and Wind Ensembles.

A highlight of the March concert will be the debut, by the Symphony Orchestra, of a piece written by WCYO alum, Garrett Schumann.  The piece, entitled Throes of Love, was commissioned by the WCYO in celebration of the organization’s 10th season and in recognition of the musical achievements of WCYO alumni.  The Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Petko Dimitrov, will also perform pieces by Britten and Rossini and will accompany the 2012 WCYO Concerto Competition winner, Alexander Roehl, as soloist performing the Weber Concerto for Clarinet No. 1 in F minor.  The String Ensemble, under the direction of Suzanne Corey-Sahlin, will perform selections by Rimsky-Korsakov and Saint Saëns, and a wonderful arrangement of Vivaldi’s Concerto for Three..  The Wind Ensemble, lead by Albert Montecalvo, will perform concert band pieces by Del Borgo and Shaffer, and the delightful Highlights from Beauty and the Beast by Menken.
