Wilton Dance Studio Spring Show on Sunday

Ahoy there! Wilton Dance Studio’s Spring Shows features fun for all ages as more than 100 student dancers, including many from Wilton, perform on Sunday, June 10 at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. “Pirates and Petticoats” is the featured ballet during the 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. shows. The two afternoon performances also include “All that Jazz,” a review-style show including modern, tap hip-hop and other styles of dance. Younger dancers will perform in ‘Grandma’s Attic” at 11 a.m.

Shows are held on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. (Grandma’s Attic) and 1 and 4 p.m. (Pirates and Petticoats and All that Jazz) at Wilton High School’s Clune Performing Arts Center. To buy tickets, call 203-544-9007 and leave a message or order at www.wiltondance.com. Tickets are available at the door for all shows.

These spring performances are the capstone for a year of dance study. “Our dancers work so hard to develop their skills all year, and these shows are a wonderful chance for them to share what they’ve learned with their families and the community, “ said Brenda Froehlich, Wilton native, owner and artistic director of the studio.

Each year, ballet students in grades one and above are invited to be part of the spring show’s featured ballet. While not a full-length ballet in the classical sense, the performance is a complete story adapted to fit a group of student dancers. This year’s “Pirates and Petticoats” is a joyful tale of love and adventure, where a merry band of pirates disrupts the wedding plans of a proper young lady and her not-very-jolly fiancé. Fun for audiences of all ages, the story-based ballet matches roles to different skill levels, and gives dancers an more authentic ballet performance experience. Dancers range from seven years old all the way to high school seniors.  After the ballet, dancers who take part in the studio’s diverse other offerings including modern, tap, and hip-hop, perform a variety show to share what they’ve learned during the year.

For younger dancers, Wilton Dance Studio sets aside a shorter morning performance for students in grade one and below. Dancers as young as three year of age take part in “Grandma’s Attic,” a hour-long variety show where each class gets a turn on the stage. “Younger dancers need a way to build performance confidence, and families with young children can find it challenging to sit through many hours of recital,” said Mrs. Froehlich. “We designed the format of the earlier show to develop that valuable stage confidence while not asking too much of students or families.”
