Wilton Library's Poetry in Motion

Teens have an innate sense that they know everything (or at least know more than their parents) and they will have the opportunity to show it in Wilton Library’s sixth annual Poetry in Motion on Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Brubeck Room.  “Tell Us What You Know!,” is the theme of this year’s poetry program for which students in grades 6 through 12 have been writing, editing, rehearsing and rewriting.  Their diligence and hard work will be showcased at the two-night performance event.

Susan Lauricella, the library’s Head of Teen Services, remarked, “Each year I am blown away by the talent and dedication that these kids put into this program, and this year’s group is just as impressive as those who have come before them.”  The students have worked through the fall and winter, taking advantage of the expertise offered in workshops and rehearsals given by Regie Gibson, nationally-known Poetry Slam winner and instructor, director Nancy Ponturo, music director Tony Burnett, and choreographer Brenda Froehlich.

Thirty-five students will perform their creations or those of other students with music and/or dance accompaniment. Their written poems and artworks will be available in a commemorative book published expressly for the event and available for sale both nights.  Each performance is followed by a reception.

Poetry in Motion is sponsored by the Patricia and John Curran Teen Fund, Giving Tree donations, and supportive friends and families.  Tickets are $5 per person and are for sale at the library’s circulation desk.  A limited number of tickets might be available for purchase at the door the night of each performance, but attendees should note that this is a popular event and it sells out quickly. The performances begin promptly at 7:30 so guests are asked to arrive by 7:20.  For information or directions, visit www.wiltonlibrary.org and call 203-762-3950, ext. 243.
