“Words & Music” Performance Series at the Ossining Public Library

Whether it’s jazz, folk or rock ‘n’ roll, the The Ossining Library Foundation’s Words & Music concerts are a great (and free) way to spend a Sunday afternoon.  The Fall 2011 line up will include singer-songwriters Eric Andersen, Joe D’Urso, and KJ Denhert  who will perform in the intimate  200-seat Budarz Theater.  All concerts begin at 2pm and doors open at 1:30pm. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Sunday, September 18 – Eric Andersen

Emerging from the Greenwich Village folk music scene of the early 1960s, Eric Andersen has recorded 25 albums over his four-decade career. His poetically-written and philosophical songs have been recorded by artists including Judy Collins, John Denver, Peter Paul and Mary, the Grateful Dead and Linda Rondstadt. Andersen  is best known for his 1972 release, Blue River, an album inspired by the Hudson River featuring Joni Mitchell singing duet harmonies, which Rolling Stone credited as being “the best example of the ‘70s singer-songwriter movement.”

Since 1991, Joe D’Urso & Stone Caravan have gained worldwide recognition for their fresh take on Americana rock in the vein of Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp, their music described as “American backyard gasoline rock and roll” by past Words & Music performer Willie Nile. D’Urso has received praise for his passionate songwriting from the New York Times and the BBC, as well as Grammy Award nominations for his 2000 release, “Rock and Roll Station.” D’Urso’s 12th album, “Down Here by the River,” was released in January 2010 and features songs written by Steven Van Zandt and the BoDeans.
