A Chilly Columbus Day With Sunshine to Start! Clouds Increase with Rain by Sunset!

Chilly Weather Will Dominate the Week!

Good morning!

We are starting out on the Columbus Day that is rather quiet with some sunshine and only high clouds which will shift into a wetter day with mainly afternoon or late day rain on the lead of a short-wave trough that will quickly move from the southern Plains this morning into the Northeast by this evening.

This will draw the moisture northward and with the low off shore and the high pressure to the north an easterly flow will develop at the surface. All features will come together to spread this rain farther north and west than previously thought.

This low pressure stays off shore, but rain will continue to spread northeastward on this same wave of energy and remain around here through a good part of the night. The steadiest of rain will fall in the evening, but soundings continue to show moisture trapped at the surface into tomorrow with a light easterly flow. We'll still call it rain and drizzle for the day, but again the best chance for damp weather will be early in the day with low clouds and spotty drizzle in the afternoon. Some fog will develop at night into Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, during the day a cold front approaches and will lead to a shower late in the day, though it could hold off until Wednesday night.

Either way it will lead to a dry day on Thursday. High pressure to the south of the region and with that winds will turn to the west or southwest. Winds will also pick up this day as well with winds aloft lining up.

On Friday, there will be another front moving through will cause a shower across areas to the north, but is expected to move through dry across the region, but a few clouds can be expected. Look for a chilly night Friday night into Saturday morning with the high building in.

Saturday will be a dry day as high pressure moves off shore to the east and with the chilly start to the day it will be a slow climb to around 60 degrees. Mild weather will move in on Sunday as the next storm system approaches from the west. This lead to a few more clouds and could cause a shower, but we'll call it a dry day for now.

Have a great Columbus Day!
