The power of pink will be on full display across the country this Friday for national Git Your Pink On Day.
The effort, on Oct. 18, is meant to raise awareness about breast cancer, which is the most common cancer in women in the United States. And the timing is fitting as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The CDC reports that, in 2009, (the most recent year numbers are available):
- 211,731 women and 2,001 men in the United States were diagnosed with breast cancer.
- 40,676 women and 400 men in the United States died from breast cancer.
