iPhone 5 To Have Smaller Charging Port

Though its release date is uncertain, the iPhone 5's new design will likely have a huge impact on iPhone accessories.

The heavily anticipated iPhone 5 will have a 19-pin port through which to charge the device, rather than the 30-pin port to which users have become accustomed, TechCrunch reports

The current charging port has been found on Apple products since the third generation iPod was introduced in April 2003.

"Three independent manufacturers all agreed that the 19-pin dock port is in the works and many accessory manufacturers are facing an uneasy few months as they wait for official news of the standard to be announced," John Biggs wrote in a blog post on TechCrunch. "The new port, partially shown in this Mobilefun post as well as in this video, is similar in size to the Thunderbolt port available on many MacBook devices but I’ve been told by three independent manufacturers that the pin-out will be different."
