Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk Beefs up its Social Media Efforts

Former Patch local editor take the social media reigns at the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk. Cara Kenefick will contribute original content, manage social media accounts and assist with digital branding strategies.

Responding to the new and expanding digital opportunities for connecting with visitors and supporters, The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk has hired an associate of social media engagement.

Cara Kenefick will represent the Aquarium across various social platforms, creating and contributing original content, responding to posts, managing the Aquarium's social accounts and assisting with digital branding strategies.

“Doing social media well at the Aquarium has become a full-time job, and Cara will be an integral part of expanding our outreach,” said Marketing Director Chris Loynd in a release. “It is important that our visitors always have new and exciting ways to connect with us and to share information about the Aquarium.”

Kenefick said she can’t wait to digitally capture and share the Aquarium’s vibrant and unique offerings.

“There are so many opportunities to expand on the Aquarium’s social presence,” Kenefick said.

Kenefick joins The Maritime Aquarium marketing team after serving as managing editor of CTLatinoNews.com, the first English-language online news site launched by the Latino News Network for Connecticut's Hispanic population. She wrote and edited news stories, strategized marketing initiatives and partnerships, and successfully assisted in developing and launching RILatinoNews.com and MassLatinoNews.com.

Prior to working for Latino News Network, she led the hyper-local news site Newport Patch.  As Local Editor, she reported on news stories and cultivated social engagement within the Newport, RI, community.

Kenefick brings more than three years of professional experience in creating content for digital media, as well as tracking and analyzing online and digital metrics to pinpoint trends and establish best practices in social media and online branding. 

From late 2010 to early 2013, Kenefick grew Newport Patch's social media audience three-fold, created partnerships with local businesses to develop increased brand awareness and implemented several successful marketing campaigns, resulting in thousands of social media followers, newsletter subscriptions and unique visitors to the site.

Through developing best practices for social and digital media for the Latino News Network, she and her team grew brand awareness throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, especially with local media and government officials.

The Guilford native holds a bachelor’s of science degree in journalism from Boston University.
