The Changing Face of Wilton Retail

With notable closings -- and optimistic store openings -- business in Wilton is definitely different these days.

There's change afoot on the Wilton business landscape, as the town prepares to say goodbye to big-box bookseller Borders, among other stores, but welcomes a more diverse array of additional retailers.

While the town's Rte. 7 corridor can offer potential promise of traffic to retailers desperate for passing customer notice, it doesn't always guarantee success. No matter the location, even established retailers are trying all sorts of things to expand and vary their appeal to customers.

With growing attention to Wilton's grand list and budget issues, there's increased focus on the role our town's business base can play in keeping the town out of the red.

Here's a glimpse at some of the changing players in the Wilton business community.

Maybe now Wilton will return to it's mom and pop roots and have stores that we can actually use and are not "mall' spawns.

agree with david- also wish people would be more supportive of the local storeowners, its ok if you can save money at costco, but wouldnt it be cool if you had a friendship with who you buy your food from, plus saving the travel/gas?

Thank you to any and all business owners who venture into Wilton with a new retail shop. Mom-and-pop to big box, our town needs them all to offset our taxes.

I'm thinking about starting a nail spa...

Dear Concerned Parent, Like you I am concerned about the lack of Nail Spas is our town. I think it's important that each block offer several choices, along with banks, and wine stores.
