Local Kayaking Guidebooks are available

"Kayaking in and around the Norwalk Islands" guidebooks make great "stocking stuffer" gifts for the kayaker in your life or as a reference for people interested in the Norwalk Islands. The book was written in 2009 by East Norwalk resident and avid kayaker David Park. The 2013 4th edition, complete with color photos, includes information on where to launch, navigation, kayaking the three local rivers, coastal and off-shore kayaking, kayak safety, island wildlife including Osprey and island history. The book includes detailed descriptions of all the islands including islands that are open to the public for camping, picnics and hiking, islands that are private and islands that are part of the Stewart B. McKinney Wildlife Refuge. It also describes kayaking in Westport and Darien.

The guidebooks are only $10 and are available at the Small Boat Shop, 144 Water St, South Norwalk; Ripka's Beach Cafe, Calf Pasture Beach, East Norwalk; the Westport Historical Society gift shop, 25 Avery Place; the Dock Shop, 51 Tokeneke Rd, Darien; and the Outdoor Sports Center, 80 Danbury Rd, Wilton.
