As we approach the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Fairfield County cities and towns have planned numerous events and ceremonies giving residents the chance to come together and remember this highly significant day in U.S. history. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise specified.
DARIEN, Darien
Sunday at 9 a.m.
On Sunday morning, award-winning author and retreat leader Barbara Crafton will speak at the in Darien. Crafton was working at her New York City church, St. Clement’s in the Theatre District, on 9/11 where she and her parishioners held night-long volunteer shifts, offering refuge and comfort to police, firefighters, construction workers and mourners. From this experience, Crafton wrote “Mass in Time of War.”
Town's 9/11 Monument Ceremony
Darien's September 11 Memorial
Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
Darien will honor the 10th anniversary with a ceremony at their September 11 memorial, located behind on Hollow Tree Ridge Road.
EASTON
Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Easton Volunteer Fire Company will remember 9/11 on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Easton Firehouse. Easton’s volunteer fire fighters have built a Memorial to the New York City Firefighters incorporating a piece of steel from the World Trade Center. On Sunday, 343 flags will be placed on the town green, representing the firefighters who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
FAIRFIELD
9/11 Film Screenings

On Saturday, the library offers a screening of the iconic film, “9/11,” created by filmmakers and brothers Jules and Gedeon Maudet. On Sunday, the library will offer two screenings of “9/12: From Chaos to Community."
Saturday and Sunday from noon-4 p.m., Interfaith Service Sunday at 3 p.m.
This free exhibit honors the state’s first responders, social service agencies, and other businesses, organizations and individuals who took action and helped our community and nation recover. “Connecticut Responds and Reflects” also features a collection of photographs by award-winning photographer Stephen Wilkes. The exhibit runs from September 3-18 and is open this weekend from noon-4 p.m.. On Sunday at 3 p.m., the Fairfield Museum will host an Interfaith Service led by clergy from local Jewish, Christian and Muslim congregations.
A National Requiem of Remembrance

Fairfield County Chorale is the local host for the national ten-year anniversary “Requiem of Remembrance Project” and will perform at 7 p.m. on Sunday evening at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Similar to the "Rolling Requiem" that occurred on the first anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, this year, the singing of Mozart’s Requiem will begin on the East Coast and roll from time zone to time zone. The Fairfield County Chorale will join choruses from Long Island to Hawaii in a wave of remembrance.

The museum will display the late Robert Rauschenberg’s print “I Love New York” in its front foyer. On Sunday, the museum will open at 11 a.m. free of charge and guests are invited to leave their personal memories and reflections.
At 10 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, there will be a service of remembrance held at , 395 Round Hill Road. The congregation's annual Rally Day Picnic, which is open to the public, will be held following the service at 11 a.m.
At 10:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, the , 139 E. Putnam Ave., will hold a 9/11 remembrance as part of its annual homecoming weekend. The service will be followed by a barbecue luncheon at 11:30 a.m.
At 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, the Town of Greenwich will hold its official ceremony for the victims of 9/11 and their families. The ceremony, to be held in front of , 101 Field Point Road, will reportedly include a presentation of a wreath and flowers, a 21-gun salute, and special tributes to the first responders who died.
At 3 p.m., Monday, Sept. 12, , 5 Perryridge Road, will hold a ceremony near the 9/11 memorial sculpture in the hospital's Carl and Dorothy Bennett Community Garden. The event will feature a keynote from Silas Seandel, the sculptor, who witnessed the attacks from his studio near ground zero.
NEW CANAAN
New Canaan Train station/ on Park Street

At 4:45, a first responders' procession will travel from the New Canaan Train Station to the plaza outside the Congregational Church. At the church, a memorial service will begin at 5 p.m. and include readings, psalms, prayers for wisdom and peace and hymns by area choirs. In case of rain, the service will be held at .
NORWALK
11th Annual CT United Ride
Norden Industrial Park, Norwalk
Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Over 3,000 motorcyclists from Connecticut and the surrounding states will gather in Norwalk’s Norden Industrial Park for ceremony that will begin at 10:30 a.m. Speakers include Lt. Governor Wyman, Congressman Himes, Senator Blumenthal, Mayors Moccia, Finch and several others. A flyover will take place at 10:50 a.m. Following the ceremony, close to 100 fire apparatus, including 20 ladder trucks creating arches for American flags, are expected to line the route as motorcyclists travel through 10 Fairfield County cities and towns. The public is invited out and encouraged to line the route.
REDDING

Redding Town Hall will be open to view the "9/11 Remembered by Redding" photo display sponsored by Redding Fire/EMS #1. At 5 p.m., the community will gather at the Town Green for a program, including Germantown Ancient Fife and Drum, flag retirement/taps, songs from Redding students and special guest speaker Major Daniel Carter of the U.S. Air Force Academy. At 6 p.m., there will be a patriotic themed Concert on the Green. In case of rain, the program will take place in the .
RIDGEFIELD
Parks and Recreation Field on Danbury Road
Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
Ridgefield too will dedicate a 9/11 memorial on the 10th anniversary. On Sunday, the Town of Ridgefield and the September 11 Memorial Committee will hold a ceremony and unveiling of the stone memorial at the Parks and Recreation field on Danbury Road. The cornerstone of the memorial is a steel beam from the World Trade Center, which arrived in Ridgefield on September 2, 2010.
STAMFORD
Flag Raising

Stamford firefighters, police and EMS personnel will raise an American flag that was flown recently in Afghanistan by a U.S. Army captain from Stamford.

WESTPORT
Connecticut's 9/11 Living Memorial
Sherwood Point, , Westport
An ongoing memorial, the Black Cherry tree on Sherwood Point — visible from miles around — stands over Connecticut's 9/11 Living Memorial. The park was chosen for the memorial because on a clear day, the New York City skyline is visible from the point and on 9/11, people gathered could see the smoke rise over the World Trade Center. Parking fees for the park are waived on September 11 through the year 2025.
Ceremony Honoring Connecticut’s 9/11 First Responders and Volunteers

A ceremony will take place at Connecticut’s 9/11 Living Memorial in Westport’s Sherwood Island State Park to honor Connecticut’s first responders. The ceremony will feature remarks from Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy, United States Attorney David B. Fein, Bonnie McEneaney from Voices of September 11th and New York Police Department Deputy Inspector Andrew Savino.
“Tribute to First Responders” Benefit Concert

The second annual “Tribute to First Responders” is a fundraising concert to benefit Westport’s Volunteer Emergency Medical Service (WVEMS). The concert is a tribute to First Responders everywhere in memory of 9/11. DNR, described as "Fairfield County’s (Almost) All Physician Rock Band," will entertain with classic rock tunes. A suggested donation of $5 per person will benefit WVEMS.
WILTON
Wilton Fire Department’s 9/11 Ceremony

Wilton will mark the 10th anniversary at the Wilton Fire Headquarters at the permanent monument to the five Wilton residents who died in the attacks, as well as New York City emergency workers who died. The ceremony will include tributes, prayer and music followed by a reception.
SHELTON
Flag Retirement Ceremony

Members of the Post will be holding a ceremony to properly "retire" old, worn American flags by incinerating them, with reflection on the tragic events of 9/11. The public is invited to attend and scout groups are encouraged to attend in uniform with their unit colors.
