UPDATE: I-95 Southbound Down To Single Lane after Truck Spills Fuel

Update: 5:50p.m. The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a reported fuel spill from a truck on I-95 southbound just prior to exit 16 this morning at 10:30am, according to a release from the Norwalk Fire Dept.  Upon arrival fire crews found that a tractor trailer truck that rear-ended another tractor trailer and had leaked the contents of its saddle tank and all of its motor oil onto the highway. An oil spill of approximately 60 gallons of diesel and motor oil took up 100’ of the right and center travel lanes.

Firefighters used absorbent to dike the spill and prevent the oil from entering the storm drains that lead to the Norwalk River, according to the release. A DEEP official called to the scene ordered a vacuum truck and sweeper to clean up the spill after a DOT sand truck coated the area with sand. A second travel lane was opened until the clean up crew arrived from New Haven to complete the cleanup.

Parkway Auto worked to secure the second saddle tank from leaking as the main fuel line between the tanks was compromised, prior to towing the truck from the highway. No injuries were reported from the accident and the highway was reopened completely at 1:30pm.
