Newtown Victim's Mother Wants Say in Gun Control Debate

The mother of a Sandy Hook Elementary School student who was killed on Dec. 14 will discuss the president's planned actions on gun control before they are enacted.

The mother of a 6-year-old boy killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting will have a chance to share her family's views on gun control with President Barack Obama before he proposes any changes to gun laws.

The Associated Press reports that Noah Pozner's mother has been in contact with the White House after she expressed a desire to make her voice heard on the gun control debate.

"There is no perspective more meaningful in this process than that of a parent who has lost a child," spokesman Matt Lehrich said in an emailed statement to the AP.

According to Patch archives, Pozner's parents moved to Connecticut from New York to live in a safe community. Pozner's twin sister and 8-year-old sister attend Sandy Hook School, but they were not injured in the Dec. 14 shooting that claimed the life of 20 students and six educators.

In a eulogy, Pozner's mother talked about how her son wanted to be a doctor, a soldier and a taco factory manager. "It was your favorite food, and no doubt you wanted to ensure that the world kept producing tacos," she said in a statement.

In the past month since the Newtown tragedy, Vice President Joe Biden has been working with lawmakers from both parties on a series of proposals. On Tuesday, he is expected to announce sweeping changes to gun laws.

According to a report by the Huffington Post, Biden's proposals are likely to address the availability and access to certain types of guns and ammunition and tackle the issue of data collection and background checks. Those proposals would be forwarded to the President's desk.
