Emergency personnel have called off the search for David Riek after a body matching the description of the missing man was found by volunteers on Florida Hill Road.
The body, which was found at approximately 1 p.m., has not been positively identified as Riek yet, and officials are awaiting the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to examine the body. The cause of death has not been announced yet.
“We just wanted to thank all the volunteers,” said Ridgefield Fire Chief Heather Burford. “They’ve been a big help.”
Riek was last seen yesterday when he left his residence off of Florida Road at 7 a.m. on Sept. 8, for one of his routine Saturday morning runs. A long-distance runner, Riek typically returns by 8:30 a.m., but he never came home.

Having lost my husband suddenly (ironically, after a run, from an apparent heart attack), I can only offer my best wishes for peace of mind. Please treasure the good memories, and keep talking about Dave and the experiences you had with him. That may help family and friends draw some strength at a trying time. Grief is a marathon. Unexpected kindnesses and gestures of compassion down the road are hugely appreciated.
