Wintery Mix in Store for Wilton

Snowfall fall for today may bring significant accumulation.

Correction: no early dismissals.

If you’re thinking we’re , you’re sadly mistaken: A winter weather advisory has been issued for Wednesday through Thursday morning for Fairfield and New Haven counties.

According to the National Weather Service the region will get anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of snow, mixed with rain, with inland towns getting higher accumulations. In addition it will be colder, with temperatures dropping into the high 20s/low 30s on Wednesday night. What’s more there will be wind gusts of up to 15 miles an hour Wednesday into Thursday.

"Snow should develop from west to east from late this morning into this afternoon," the National Weather Service said in an early morning update today. "The snow will mix with sleet and there may also be some pockets of freezing rain this afternoon and evening. The wintry mix is expected to change to all rain Thursday morning."

It will be more rain than snow, the weather service predicts. The snow “could” impact the Wednesday evening commute, it said, but by Thursday morning it will be all rain.

Call it Mother Nature’s rude reminder that the first day of spring isn’t until March 20.
