Free Conservation Kits, Home Energy Efficiency Seminars for Residents

Attend one Home Energy Solutions Seminar at SmartLiving™ Center and receive a conservation kit while supplies last!

With a heightened focus on making Connecticut a more energy efficient state, there is no better place to start than within your home.  Beginning November 1, 2012, as part of the Energize Connecticut initiative, the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund will help residents get started on reducing their homes’ energy usage and costs by giving away free Conservation Kits while supplies last to those that attend a Home Energy Solutions (HES) seminar at the SmartLiving™ Center in Orange.

“Since these seminars are being held for a limited time only, residents should sign-up now for our expert sessions on how to improve home energy efficiency,” said Jamie Howland, First Vice Chairperson, Energy Efficiency Board.  “Attendees will learn what an HES assessment entails and the numerous benefits that result from an HES visit as well as how to properly use the materials within the free kits they will receive.”

The conservation kit includes:

  • 1 13-Watt ENERGY STAR®-qualified Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb (CFL)
  • 1 Light-Emitting Diode (LED) night light
  • Draft stoppers for outlets and switch gaskets
  • 4 Safety caps
  • Foam weather strip tape
  • 1 Inside storm window kit
  • 1 Refrigerator temperature gauge card

While at the SmartLiving Center, guests can also take a tour to learn more about energy and electricity, electrical safety, sources of energy, conservation, the latest in energy efficiency and much more.  Expert staff will be available to teach guests about how to choose the most efficient products for their homes such as insulation and energy-efficient lighting solutions.

“It’s really an interesting, hands-on kind of place where people can learn about the latest energy-saving home products, and try them out first-hand,” Howland added.

The Home Energy Solutions seminars will be held beginning November 1 through November 10, 2012, and a complete schedule of the seminars are online at www.uinet.com/slc.  To reserve your seat, call the SmartLiving Center at 203-799-0460.
