Community Corner

At&T, Safety Mom, and Trackside Teen Center's Distracted Driving Seminar

The Trackside Teen Center in Wilton will be hosting a distracted driving seminar on September 19th between 7-9 p.m. for parents, teenagers, and the communities within Fairfield County to show the dangers of distracted driving, specifically texting while driving.

The event is in conjunction with AT&T's It Can Wait campaign, which strives to educate people-especially teens- about the dangers of texting and driving.

Alison Jacobson of Wilton is a national family safety expert who is parterned with AT&T to promote their important campaign.

During the event, Alison will be debuting a 30-minute documentary, One Second to the Next, which shows the aftermath of texting and driving.  The film, which is premiering in Los Angeles this week, was directed by Hollywood actor/director Warner Herzog and will be distributed to 40,000 schools around the country.  This, however, will be the first time it will be shown in Fairfield County.

There will be a panel discussion following the screening with Alison; Kiersten Aichinger- a young woman who was run over by a texting and driver and Officer Steve Ross, the school liason for Wilton Police.  Attendees will also be able to use the It Can Wait simulator, which shows first-hand the risks of texting and driving. In addition, there will be stations set up for people to Take the Pledge to never text and drive.  Complimentary pizza and soft drinks will be provided, and a t-shirt giveaway for the first 50 attendees will be available.
