Honey bee colonies have been in decline in the US
for 60 years. Bumble bees are in trouble, too, with
formerly common species declining here in New
England and around the world. Dr. Stoner will talk
about the current research on pollinator decline and
her own research on bees and pollination in
Connecticut. Dr. Kimberly Stoner is an entomologist
at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station
in New Haven. She has a PhD in Entomology from
Cornell University. She works closely with organic
farmers in developing alternatives to insecticides
for managing vegetable insects, and she was the
founding chair of the Organic Land Care Program,
a program to educate and accredit landscapers in
Her current research focuses on bees and pollination
of vegetable crops.
