Green Speaker Series: Chasing Ice Film Screening

Wednesday, April 30 WGG/WLA Green Speaker Series: Chasing Ice Film Screening, 7 – 8:30 p.m. Chasing Ice is the story of one man's mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of our changing planet. Within months of that first trip to Iceland, acclaimed environmental photographer James Balog conceived the boldest expedition of his life: The Extreme Ice Survey. With a band of young adventurers in tow, Balog began deploying revolutionary time-lapse cameras across the brutal Arctic to capture a multi-year record of the world's changing glaciers. His hauntingly beautiful videos compress years into seconds and capture ancient mountains of ice in motion as they disappear at a breathtaking rate. Chasing Ice depicts a photographer trying to deliver evidence and hope to our carbon-powered planet. The documentary has received more than 30 awards, including the Renewable Natural Resources Foundation’s 2013 Outstanding Achievement Award.  A panel discussion will follow the film: 'How are the Wilton faith communities responding to climate change?' featuring Rev. Dr. Arnold Thomas - Wilton Congregational Church, Rev. Shannon White - Wilton Presbyterian Church, and Rev. Mary Grace Williams - Wilton Episcopal Church. The Green Speaker series is co-sponsored by Wilton Go Green and Wilton Library. No charge. Registration recommended. Wilton Library, 137 Old Ridgefield Road, Wilton; www.wiltonlibrary.org; (203) 762-3950.
