Over 1,000 athletes will compete in Special Olympics' Fall Sports Festival, September 7th and 8th

Athletes from across the state will compete in the Special Olympics Connecticut 2013 Fall Sports Festival, presented by Mohegan Sun, on Saturday, September 7th and Sunday, September 8th. More than 1,000 are expected to participate, proving that athletes of all abilities possess the determination and aptitude to make great achievements in sports. An additional 400 volunteers and 350 coaches will lend their support. The public is invited to attend at no cost to cheer on the athletes and witness great displays of sportsmanship and teamwork. Events will include:

·         Softball at Connecticut Sportsplex, 150 Foxon Road, North Branford and Kennedy Field, 51 Maple Street, East Haven

·         Bocce at Savin Rock, Oak Street, West Haven

The Fall Sports Festival will kick-off with opening ceremonies at each venue that include the ceremonial lighting of the Special Olympics Flame of Hope and a declaration of the Special Olympics Athlete Oath. Competitions are scheduled to take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

In addition to Mohegan Sun, sponsors include A.H. Gildersleeve, Gold Sponsor; Great Blue, Silver Sponsor; and Bic, Bronze Sponsor.

The Connecticut Section of the PGA, Dime Bank Foundation, Dominion Foundation and Moose Charities are Supporting Sponsors and Clear Channel Community Access Radio and The New Haven Register are Media Sponsors.

The Fall Sports Festival is one of over 75 competitions hosted by Special Olympics Connecticut around the state throughout the year and one of four major statewide competitions held annually. New athletes, partners, sponsors, coaches, volunteers, supporters and fans are always invited to get involved.
