AT THEATRE ARTISTS WORKSHOP

The Theatre Artists Workshop has assembled a stellar cast for its gala concert production of SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM, Fri. and Sat., Apr. 25 and 26 at 8, and Sun., Apr. 27, a sunset matinee at 6. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and additional music by Leonard Bernstein, Mary Rodgers, Richard Rodgers and Jule Styne and with continuity by Ned Sherrin, SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM will feature Mark Basile, Jackob Hofmann, Carrie Pine, Barbara Rhoades and Musical Director David Harris. The show is co-directed by Mark Basile and Jackob Hofmann.

SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM is a dazzling array of some of Sondheim's best known songs, showcasing numbers from landmark shows that revolutionized the musical theatre with their masterful craft and astounding creativity: COMPANY, FOLLIES, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, ANYONE CAN WHISTLE, PACIFIC OVERTURES, WEST SIDE STORY, GYPSY. The show was originally produced on Broadway by Harold Prince in association with Ruth Mitchell.

Weston resident Mark Basile, a long-time member of the Workshop, toured North America in CAN-CAN and ON THE 20th CENTURY. He has played Europe and Bermuda in numerous musicals and, in the US, performed the works of Shakespeare, Coward, Moliere , Feydeau and Rostand at the Folger Theatre, Center Stage and North Carolina Shakespeare. In New York he was directed by the great George Abbott in Mr. Abbott's play TROPICANA.

Among New Milford resident Jackob Hofmann's New York and Regional performing credits are THE TEMPEST, CABARET, MARAT/SADE, KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN, and THE TAMING OF THE SHREW. For New York's Abingdon Theatre, he directed BLAME IT ON BECKET and The New York Times Critic's Pick ENGAGING SHAW. He has worked as an adjunct professor of acting at Fairfield University where he directed their 2013 Fall production of RHINOCEROS.

Carrie Pine of Glastonbury, a self-proclaimed Sondheim "junkie," has played in his shows SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, ASSASSINS and A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. Other New York/Regional productions include TITANIC, PETTICOAT RULES, SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION, THE MOLLY MAGUIRES, THE IT GIRL and ALL MY SONS. She is a certified MUSIC TOGTHER teacher and performs with the cover band "Barn Cheddar."

Weston resident Barbara Rhoades got her career off to an auspicious start by landing a job in FUNNY GIRL starring Barbra Streisand. Since then she has appeared in many films, including Oscar-winners HARRY AND TONTO and THE GOOD BYE GIRL. She starred in several television series, including SOAP. Most recently she was seen off-Broadway in LOVE, LOSS AND WHAT I WORE and played the part of Irene Manning, the Mother from Hell on ONE LIFE TO LIVE.

When he was two years old, David Harris of West Haven started playing piano seriously. He went on to receive degrees in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy from Wichita State University. He is currently Director of Music and Organist at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Fairfield. Secularly, he has played piano for Off-Broadway musicals like TAKING A CHANCE ON LOVE, POST CARDS ON PARADE and THE GRASS HARP. He has worked for many theatre organizations including the Rodgers and Hammerstein Foundation and the Theatre Artists Workshop.
