V-Day Norwalk Presents ‘The Vagina Monologues’ April 4-6

Show
Featuring Local Cast to Benefit Sexual Assault Crisis Center

V-Day Norwalk 2014 announces three performances of Eve
Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 4 and
5, and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, at the Carriage House Arts Center in
Norwalk’s Cranbury Park.

The Vagina Monologues is an episodic play based on
Ensler’s interviews with more than 200 women that celebrates women’s sexuality
and strength. Directed by Newtown resident, Terry Polvay and produced by Norwalk
residents Jessica Buchanan and Claire Kenny, this year’s installment of “The
Vagina Monologues” will feature 12 local women performing monologues from
Ensler’s script.

Last year, V-Day Norwalk raised a total of $5,880 as part of V-Day, an ongoing global movement
working to end violence against women and girls. Approximately $5,292 from ticket sales and private donations
went to The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education.

In addition, $588 was donated to the V-Day Spotlight
Campaign, a global activist movement
to end violence against women and girls and a catalyst for promoting creative
events to boost awareness, raise funds and invigorate the spirit of
anti-violence groups. Each year, college and community activists raise a yearly
average of over $4 million to go toward local groups such as domestic violence
shelters and rape crisis centers.

V-Day has globally supported the work of people who
challenge the notion that violence against women is ‘the way of the world’ or
that submission to the whims of war is a necessary evil. This year, Norwalk
joins this movement again to preserve the strength of women, and to bring
awareness to this community that has such a potential to act for good.

Tickets are $25, with proceeds from the Norwalk performances
going directly toward The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and
Education. Ticket reservations can be made by calling the Carriage House Arts
Center box office at 203-229-9797 or by visiting the Carriage House
Arts Center website, carriagehouseartscenter.org, and clicking on
the “Contact Us/Reservations” tab. Payment
will be accepted at the door. Cash is preferred, but checks will be accepted.
Space is limited; however, tickets will be available at the door on a
first-come, first-serve basis.

Representatives from The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis
Counseling and Education will be present at all three performances with
educational information about their programs that provide free, 24-hour
confidential help to women, men and children who have experienced sexual
assault. The Center also provides age-appropriate personal safety classes
for children ages 4-18 to reduce their risk of becoming a victim, and
education/awareness programs for the community at large. The Center supports
the towns of Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston, Westport,
