Wilton Newcomers Club Ornament Fundraiser

If you are looking to get into the holiday spirit and embrace one of Wilton’s non-profit organizations, then you will be excited to hear about the Wilton Newcomers Club’s upcoming fundraiser. Through the end of the year, the Newcomers will be selling beautiful, hand-crafted ornaments to benefit the Wilton Historical Society.

In speaking of the Newcomers decision to donate the money raised from ornament sales to the Wilton Historical Society for a second year in a row, Katie Cunningham, co-head of Fundraising for the Newcomers says, “We are thrilled to support the Wilton Historical Society and their work to preserve the unique heritage of Wilton. Their efforts help us as a community connect to Wilton’s past and enrich Wilton’s future.”

The Newcomers will be selling ornaments in the shape of an acorn, considered to be an emblem of luck and a playful way to celebrate Wilton’s wooded landscape. This year’s ornaments are designed by Wilton’s own Laurie Davis, self-described as the Glitter Fairy. Her stunning creations have been featured three times on the Martha Stewart Show. “We are particularly excited that this year’s ornaments are being designed here in Wilton”, says Jennifer McNamara, co-head of Fundraising for the Newcomers. “This fundraising endeavor allows us to support both a local non-profit and a local business at the same time, and we hope that our family and friends here in Wilton are as excited as we are.” More of Davis’s whimsical designs can be found at www.glitterworksstudio.com.

Ornaments will be sold at two fun family events on Saturday, December 3rd. The first is the Newcomers Winter Family Fun Festival, hosted by the Wilton Historical Society, where children and their parents will have the opportunity to get a sneak peak at the traditional model train exhibit, decorate homemade gingerbread cookies, and have a photo taken with Santa. Additional details can be found on the Newcomers website at www.wiltonnewcomers.com. The next event is the Santa Portrait Fundraiser at the Babycat Milkbar, where children can have a professional portrait taken with Santa by Wilton’s own Andrea Topalian of Moments by Andrea. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Wilton Interfaith Fund while proceeds from ornament sales will benefit the Wilton Historical Society.

For those unable to make it to one of these fun events, ornaments will also be sold outside the Village Market on Monday, December 5th and Saturday, December 10th. Additionally, they will be on sale at the Wilton Historical Society throughout the holiday season or can be purchased by emailing Jen McNamara at jemcnamara@optonline.net.
