Wilton Coat Drive Needs Your Donations, Especially This Year

See what you can weed out. Donations were down the last two years and the Wilton Congregational Church Coat Drive will help many needy people in the area.

The Wilton Congregational Church Coat Drive needs your help.

"We're really hoping for a huge collection this year.  Donations were down the last two years when the drive came on the heels of the Halloween snowstorm and then Superstorm Sandy," Genevieve Eason said in an email.

The church's annual coat drive will help many needy people. In addition to coats, they are collecting linen, bedding and outerwear for adults and children.

Area residents who would like to make a difference this fall can do so by bringing their gently used coats, gloves, sleeping bags, linens and bedding to the Wilton Congregational Church from Sunday, November 3 through Tuesday, November 5. The church will be collecting goods to deliver to area residents in need.

Beneficiaries of this year’s drive are clients of Wilton Social Services, the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk and the Bridgeport Rescue Mission.

“Wilton is always generous in supporting the drive,” said Genevieve Eason, the drive’s organizer. “Last year’s drive was held during the power outage in the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy, and still people came with armloads of donations. Even then, people in town were thinking about those less fortunate.”

The coat drive’s hours are:
