The following letter was submitted to Patch from Wilton Go Green:
In the four short years since the all-volunteer Wilton Go Green came together, we have worked on numerous “green” initiatives with Town officials, community groups and residents alike. As our own appreciation of the critical value of a healthful environment has grown more profound, so has the reputation of Wilton grown as a leader in Connecticut’s natural resource conservation. Next week, residents can vote to preserve from development the renowned Keiser property adjacent to Cannondale Village. We can all demonstrate to ourselves just how much we want to bequeath an intrinsically beautiful and environmentally resilient home town to our children and grandchildren.
A YES vote at either the Nov. 19th town meeting or on Saturday, Nov 23rd (details at wiltonct.org) to conserve a key part of Wilton’s greenway will help:
• Protect water quality of the Norwalk River and its watershed area
• Connect us with the ever more scarce habitats that birds, fish and other wildlife need to survive
• Honor a key premise of the Town’s most recent Plan of Conservation and Development
And not just coincidentally, a YES vote would also advance a new vision statement that the Wilton Go Green Board members have adopted: “Wilton will be the most environmentally sustainable town in CT.” We hope you will support us, and participate in the preservation of the Keiser open space and of Wilton’s fine town character.
