Visions for Vacancies: 196 Danbury Rd.

We examine buildings in the Wilton community not living up to their full potential to see what the community would like to see spring up there.

Vacant buildings are a problem for a community. Patch wants to know what you think the solution can be.

In our occasional series Visions for Vacancies we’ll look at vacant businesses and buildings in Wilton and surrounding areas to see what our readers want to see move into their community.

Today, we’re looking at commercial space located in the front of 196 Danbury Rd., found in the listings section of Hastings Real Estate. The space is listed at 1,500 square feet in an existing building of 2,500 square feet. (Ed. Note: To be clear, other businesses exist in the remainder of the building. This is a shared space.)

The highlights of the business location are listed as, "ample and easily accessible parking, convenient to center of town, close to the Merritt Parkway and I-95 Connector."

What do you think could go in this space? Let us know in the comments section.

Sounds like we're fishing for marketing ideas, huh? How about a storefront for a sports memorabilia shop, as there are plenty of athletes in this town? Or a caterer with easy lunches (like Soup Alley) and dinners to go? Or someone who specializes in watch and jewelry repair? Or a design showcase for professional stagers? An after-school place for kids too young for Trackside and who have no interest in athletics? Just thinkin'....

I am happy to say that I am one of 2 new business owners at 196 Danbury Rd. My business is The Painted Cookie and right next store to me is Dave's Appliance. I had been searching for a location to bake and decorate cookies out of for a couple of years now. The only available locations were 1500 sq ft or more and with the rental pricing in this area, I could not build a new business with such a high rent. When I met with the Hastings they were open to dividing the space in half. It didn't take long for the other half to be rented by Dave's Appliance formally located in a larger location on Rt 7. So I think if some of these larger vacancies would consider dividing these larger spaces, more small businesses would be able to afford to have their business in the area.
