WIlton youth wrestlers collect ten medals at New Milford Kickoff Tournament

Wilton Youth Wrestlers Garner Ten Medals at New Milford Kickoff Tournament

Twenty-two wrestlers from the Wilton Youth Wrestling Club joined more than 300 hundred other young wrestlers from 30 clubs in the New York-Connecticut area at the New Milford Kickoff Classic this past Sunday.

Since the tournament was designed for experienced wrestlers, the Wilton program, which has exploded in participation since its inception in 2010 when 32 boys took to the mat, sent only a fraction of the 76 wrestlers participating in the program this year.

Despite tough odds, Warrior wrestlers brought home nine medals.  Ryan Leung, in his first-ever tournament appearance, Chris Sweeney and Zach Zeyher won gold.  Everett Andersen, Alec Favarolo, Hans Forland, Ben Leung and Eric Zhang earned silver medals.  And Dominick Caratazzolo and Max Mannino took third in their respective weight classes to win bronze.

The wrestlers were ably coached by Tom Dexter and Ted Young.

The Warriors will host Fairfield, New Canaan, Norwalk and Stamford at the season’s first home meet on Saturday morning at the team’s practice and meet facility - The Wilton Family Y.

Actually amateur wrestling is probably the world's best example of earning what you receive based on the merits. If only the rest of our society worked the same way.

James- Are you suggesting that success does not come before work??? Blasphemy!!

We'll have to put a stop to that right away...before it spreads! Let's tax the hell out of them!

Gold medal winners were more fortunate so they should pay a "fairer" share of the burden
