Double A Baseball Semi-final: Ed's Garage Doors 2 Pramer Fuel 1

In an epic pitching duel in the Wilton AA baseball semi-finals, the Ed’s Garage Door Bees squeaked out a 2-1 victory over the Pramer Fuel Tin Caps on Everett Andersen’s walk-off two run double with one out in the bottom of the sixth.  The Bees advanced to the finals where they will face the My Way Auto Body Hooks while the Tin Caps will take on the Drum Capital Storm in the consolation game.

After Bees starting pitcher John Stanley struck out the Tin Caps’ first two batters, Sam Strazza drove a long fly ball that the Bees’ center fielder could not handle.  After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Strazza trotted home on E.J. Fasano’s line single to left center to put the Tin Caps up early, 1-0.  Stanley was dominant in innings two and three, recording five more strikeouts and allowing no hits and no more runs.

Relying on a live fastball, Tin Caps’ starting pitcher Fasano was in complete command, surrendering just two walks and one infield hit in his three innings of work.

After Anthony Passaniti led off the top of the fourth with a clean single, Andersen relieved Stanley and shut the Tin Caps down the rest of the way allowing no runs and no hits, and recording all nine outs in the final three frames by strikeout.

The Bees threatened in the fourth loading the bases against reliever Strazza, but a brilliant scoop of Sam Ricketts’ hard ground ball by third baseman Trevor Martinez preserved the 1-0 lead for the Tin Caps.  Strazza was brilliant in the fifth, retiring the side 1-2-3, setting the stage for the Bees’ last inning heroics.

Trailing 1-0 with just three outs remaining, Connor Allen was hit by a pitch to start the rally.  The next Bees hitter struck out, but John Stanley singled sharply to left, bringing Andersen to the plate.  After a wild pitch put both runners in scoring position, Andersen drilled a pitch up the right field line, plating both Bees’ runners and sealing the victory in dramatic fashion.
