Fifth Grade Football: Wilton White 20 - Weston 0

League leading Warriors move to 6-0 on the season, recording their third shutout.

Despite a sloppy start, including three first half fumbles, the Wilton White fifth grade football team rolled to a 20-0 victory over Weston on Sunday at Fujitani Field.

The Warriors fumbled on their first play from scrimmage, handing the ball to Weston at the 33.  Weston managed to move the ball to the Wilton 10, where they gave the ball up on downs.  However, the Warriors immediately fumbled again giving Weston a golden opportunity from the 10.

The Wilton defensive line of Austin Cameron, Michael Coffey, Matt Gulbin, Conner Healey, Aidan Jasinski, Jimmy McKiernan and Ryan Witty clamped down on the Weston offense.  Sean Sullivan made two tackles for loss, Gulbin hit the quarterback as he threw forcing an incompletion and Cameron batted away a pass, giving the Warriors the ball back on their own 23.

Running behind the talented offensive line of Jack Baker, Jack Hall, Gulbin, Charlie Hastings, Evan Kauh, Aidan Shannon and Ryan Siegel, running backs Trevor Martines, Blake Pagano-Walley and Sean Sullivan moved the ball efficiently up the field.  Pagano-Walley then burst up the middle, breaking tackles for a 29 yard scoring run to put Wilton up 6-0.

Weston’s next possession went nowhere and they were forced to punt to midfield but another Warrior fumble gave the ball back to Weston at their 18.

After Austin Cameron sacked the Weston quarterback, safety Davis Cote picked off a pass which he returned to the Weston 19.  On the next play Everett Andersen threw a 19 yard touchdown strike to Pagano-Walley for Wilton’s second score.  Jack Tinnen added the extra point kick to make it 14-0.

The defense again set up the offense by shutting down the Weston aerial attack, forcing a turnover on downs at the Weston 32 with little time remaining in the half.

On fourth and seven from the 29, Andersen again dropped back to pass, but with all his receivers covered, scrambled left and outraced the Weston defenders to the end zone as time expired in the half with the score 20-0, Wilton.

The second half was a seesaw battle.  Ashton Argento pounded out yards at running back, as did Aidan Shannon, Brendan Sullivan and Conner Healey, allowing the Warriors to control the clock.  The defense continued to smother Weston.  Pagano-Walley recovered a fumble and Martines had an interception as the Warriors coasted to a 20-0 win and a league leading sixth victory against no defeats.
