Fifth Grade Football: Wilton White 24 - Westport South 7

Wilton White rolls to 3-0 on the season with a convincing win over Westport South

Thanks to James Shannon for covering this game while I was at my son Austin's 6th grade 12-6 victory over Ridgefield.

Blake Pagano-Walley took the opening handoff from Everett Andersen 70 yards for a TD. Westport's first possession was met by tackles for losses from Sean Sullivan, Michael Coffey and Austin Cameron. On Wilton's next offensive play Matt Gulbin, Jack Hall, Charlie Hastings, and Jack Tinnen all sealed their blocks and Sean Sullivan was able to turn the corner for a 55 yard TD run. After Josh White recovered a Westport fumble, Trevor Martines burst outside for a 15 yard gain. That was followed by a hard earned first down run by Quinn Wiseman.  This drive was capped off by an 18 yard run with a dive into the end zone by Davis Cote. Wilton was able to use multiple second half backfield combos with runs from Ryan Johnson, Ashton Argento and Brendan Sullivan.  Westport would not go away quietly.  Aidan Shannon had to make a TD saving tackle after a 31 yard 3rd and 17 pass conversion.  After a couple of Wilton penalties, Evan Kauh , Brian Cipri and Chip Hulse made a big stop on the 4 yard line on an inside run. Westport was able to move the pile just enough on a 4th down QB keeper to get to 18-7. Wilton got back to their first half ways when Sean Sullivan took a broken play and turned it into another Wilton 70yd TD run. Wilton's D finished strong with a sack and a forced fumble by Jimmy McKiernan securing the 24-7 victory.
