Sixth Grade Football: Wilton Blue 27 – Darien Blue 8

Wilton Blue rolls again, this time over Darien, 27-8

Leading wire-to-wire, the Wilton Sixth Grade Blue Warriors soundly defeated Darien Blue, 27-8 on Sunday by executing nearly flawlessly on both sides of the ball.

Darien Blue reeled off a long running play to start the game, but Austin Andersen, Steven Tuin and Jack Savarese stuffed Darien ball carriers on the next three plays to force a punt and set up Wilton’s first scoring drive.

The offensive line of Noah Levi, Savarese, Sean Purdy, Jack Lenz, Dominick Polito, Erik Lebek and Cooper Heinemann dominated from the outset opening a huge hole for Andersen who gained 13 yards on the first play from scrimmage.  Jack Dirocco and Ryan Healey ground out yards and Kyle Hyzy threw a short pass to Andersen who rumbled 22 yards to the Darien 22.  Hyzy then burst through the line for a touchdown.  DiRocco’s point after made the score 7-0.

Darien’s next two possessions were spoiled by Dominick Polito, who had multiple tackles and sacks on the day, when he crushed the quarterback forcing a fumble and a nine yard loss, and Ryan Healey, whose huge hit forced a fumble that the Warriors recovered on the Darien 22.  Two plays later, Matthew McVey scored on an 18 yard run thanks to huge lead blocks from Healey, Andersen and DiRocco.  The score was 14-0 at the half.

Darien’s only highlight came early in the second half when they scored on a long touchdown run to narrow the score to 14-8.  For the rest of the half the swarming Warrior defense led by Jimmy O’Brien, Anthony Andre, Ryan and Jake Kauffman, Niko Kouvaris and Sean Soltis shut down the Blue Wave.
