Wilton Ten Year Old Baseball Players Head to Cooperstown

Traditional competition in the cradle of baseball began Saturday

Continuing a long-standing Wilton Little League tradition, a select group of ten year old baseball players on Saturday made the trek to Cooperstown, the cradle of America's quintessential national pastime, to compete in a tournament at the Cooperstown All-Star Village against teams from around the country.

Led by coaches Dirk van Heyst, Ralph Strazza, Anthony Passaniti, Shea Wallon and James Andersen, the team began practicing twice per week indoors in February to prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play in the cradle of our national game.  In addition, the team has played 15 scrimmages in the run up to the tournament.

Festivities began Saturday with a family barbecue followed by opening ceremonies and a skills competition.  The Warriors will take the field at 2pm Sunday in the first of six games over three days of pool play against teams from Illinois, Indiana, New York and Massachusetts.  A single elimination championship bracket will begin Wednesday.

This year's Wilton Cooperstown Warriors: Eli Ackerman, Everett Andersen, Brian Cipri, Ryan Johnson, Jimmy McKiernan, Anthony Passaniti, A. J. Preisano, Max Rothkopf, Andrew Rubsam, Ryan Sorbo, Sam Strazza, Ryan van Heyst, Davis Wallon and Micah Worley.
