I always try to make up my own recipes but sometimes I find great ones that I just can't resist. Here are some quick bites that are fun, spooky and (yes) good for you.
Mummy Head Pizza
Continuing on my mummy theme (see my Awesome Halloween Mummy Head Craft) these little bites are perfect for party tables or as a pre trick or treat meal. Top English Muffins (or pizza dough cut with a ring mold) with sauce. Lay thin cheese strips in mummy wrap fashion leaving some sauce visible and add two half olive eyes. Bake until cheese is melty. If you over bake, your mummy will look like a ghost!
TIP: If using pizza dough it will take a bit longer. I pre-cooked my pizza rounds for 15 minutes at 400 until they were puffy and golden brown.
Chattering Teeth Apples
I found this on the web and love it! Cut apple wedges then cut again to remove a center wedge. Insert almond slivers to form teeth for a healthy spooky snack in minutes.
Fingers In The Dip
Another bite that's ready in minutes. Stand baby carrots up in a bowl of veggie dip. Use a little dip to "glue" almond sliver finger tips to the ends. Thinly cut slivers of apple can be substituted for almonds to make this a nut-free snack.
Mac and Cheese Swamp Monsters
Almost every child loves mac and cheese! Use an ice cream scoop to make a ball of mac and cheese. Plop it on a bit of mixed greens or kale. Sliced Pimento olives give an eery glow to the eyes.
I used whole peeled carrots for these and sliced them into bit sized bits. Add a smear of cream cheese,( veggi dip or mayo work well too) and top with a raisin or black olive. I like to use the cream cheese and raisin for this one. It adds a bit of protein and sweetness that my daughters really like.
All of these recipes can be modified to suit your taste.
