Only a Few Spaces Left for CPR and AED Training!

On Sunday, April 27th, Cardiac Companion, LLC and Hello Yoga will be holding a CPR and AED training class from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.  The class will be held at the Hello Yoga Studio located at 80 Old Ridgefield Rd, Wilton Center and will be taught by Nancy Capelle, Founder of Cardiac Companion, LLC.

The American Heart Association Family & Friends CPR class being offered is for people who want to learn CPR, but do not need a course completion card in CPR. This course is ideal for schools and students, new parents, grandparents, babysitters and others interested in learning how to save a life.

The Family & Friends CPR program teaches:

  • Adult Hands-Only CPR
  • Adult AED use
  • Child CPR
  • Infant CPR
  • Adult, child and infant relief of choking
“What’s unique about this class is that it will not only provide CPR and AED instruction, but also valuable information on heart disease, risk factors, education on the difference between heart attacks and cardiac arrest, and much more,” says Capelle.  “I will share how to recognize a cardiac emergency as well as the challenges that women, in particular, face with respect to heart disease.  The importance of and strategies for work-life balance are also addressed,” adds Capelle.

The cost for this class is $70 per student and includes an American Heart Association training kit for each student to keep.

“The training kits are wonderful because they allow students to go home and demonstrate what they have learned for their family and friends,” says Capelle.  “The kits all come with DVDs which enable families to continue to practice skills as needed.”

Although the class will focus on women and heart disease, Capelle stresses that it is important for men to also participate.  Since over 80% of all cardiac arrests, that occur outside a hospital, occur at home, the probability that someone will be in a situation where they need to perform CPR on a family member is quite real.

“Unfortunately, heart attacks and cardiac arrest are still seen as a man’s disease, when the fact is that heart disease is the number one killer of women, more women die from heart disease than men and women have more risk factors for heart disease than men,” says Capelle.  “Therefore, it is very important that the men in women’s lives get trained in CPR because the reality is that there is a greater chance a husband will be performing CPR on their wife rather than the other way around.”
